Leaf collection in Fort Wayne ahead of schedule

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Crews weren't scheduled to move into the southern section of Fort Wayne for leaf collection until Monday, October  29, however because of favorable weather,  crews began pickup in that section of the city on Thursday, October 25.

According to a city spokesperson, being ahead of schedule, will not cause missed pick-ups for those residents who were not planning to have their leaves out until next Monday.

“Sometimes it takes 4 days to get through a section of town and sometimes 6 or 7 days. It always depends on the amount of leaves that have fallen. We will be in the southern neighborhoods tomorrow where many of the residents have already placed leaves in the park strip. Those that were planning to be ready next Monday will be revisited next week. It is important to take advantage of the weather conditions we currently have because we know weather can change as we get closer to December,” said Bob Kennedy, Director of Public Works for the City of Fort Wayne.

Residents can track progress online at cityoffortwayne.org/leaves. The page is updated each afternoon and pinpoints not only the section of town crews are working in, but the exact neighborhood. Additionally, residents can call the leaf pick-up hotline, 427-2302 to get daily updates.

Each of the City’s 355 neighborhoods will receive two separate sweeps during the collection process. Residents are asked to have their leaves at the curb by 7:00 A.M. on their scheduled collection week.
