Land trust acquires 130 acres in Allen Co.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) -- A northern Indiana land trust has added another 130 acres to its holdings, including land boasting 30-foot bluffs overlooking the Maumee River.

ACRES Land Trust says it recently finished acquiring 87 acres at Blue Cast Springs in Allen County and 43 acres at the Richard Bruner Nature Preserve on Pigeon Pond in Steuben County.

The Journal Gazette reports the purchases boost the nonprofit conservation group's land holdings to more than 5,000 acres at 85 nature preserves around Indiana.

Huntington-based ACRES says the Blue Cast Springs site features upland forest land, ravines and 30-foot bluffs overlooking about 3,000 feet of Maumee River frontage.

The Richard Bruner Nature Preserve contains wetlands, upland forests and floodplains.

ACRES' purchase of the two sites was aided by funding from Indiana's Bicentennial Nature Trust.
