FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Kate's Kart held a fundraiser on Saturday at both the Glenbrook and Jefferson Pointe Barnes & Noble locations to raise money for new books.

Kate's Kart is a non-profit organization that supplies free books to hospitalized children. It was founded in 2008 by the Layman family in memory of their daughter, Katherine Anne Layman.

Barnes & Noble donated a percentage of every sale made by Kate's Kart supporters to the foundation. The money will be given to Kate's Kart in the form of a Barnes and Noble gift card.

Krista Layman, co-founder and Director of Kate's Kart, said their goal is to raise $1,000.

Layman said the foundation gives 1,400 books away each month to children in 16 different hospitals.  So far, more than 50,000 books have been distributed.

"It's so encouraging to see a kid when they get a book. Their faces light up," Layman said.

The book fair will continue at both area Barnes & Noble locations until December 13. You must mention Kate's Kart at the time of your purchase.

You can also choose a children's book to donate to Kate's Kart.
