Issue with 469 off-ramp or driver behavior?

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - For the third time in six months, a semi toppled on its side after exiting 469 to merge onto I-69 today.  So, we went looking for answers.  Is there an issue with the ramp or with driver behavior?

The spokesperson for INDOT said there's nothing wrong with the ramp.  Traffic was backed up for hours near mile marker 296 on I-69 shortly after the semi flipped over around 11am Thursday.  Police said the driver crawled out of the passenger window.  He wasn't hurt and luckily no one else was either.  Indiana State Police said speed was a factor in the accident.  That caused the load of tractor parts he was hauling to shift, which ultimately flipped the semi onto its side.  INDOT urges drivers to slow down and follow the speed limits that are posted for all on and off ramps.

"The advisory speed on entrance and exit ramps are there because it's a safety measure.  That's the safe speed for drivers to travel those ramps," INDOT spokesperson Mary Foster said.

Indiana State Police spokesperson Ron Galaviz said this goes to show weather isn't always a factor in accidents.  The exit ramp and interstate were clear as the semi driver tried to merge.  Traffic was reduced to one lane for the majority of the afternoon.  Police and INDOT encourage other drivers to slow down and be cautious of those trying to merge onto roadways.
