FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) hosted Fitness Day for Fort Wayne Community School elementary students on Tuesday.
About 400 students from five elementary students participated in the various fitness events from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Students from Bloomingdale, Harrison Hill, Indian Village, St. Joe Center and Waynedale all had the chance to meet with IPFW coaches from several sports, observe demonstrations, and participate in drills.
"Fitness Day" is a way to increase our involvement in the community and help promote a healthy lifestyle for young kids," said IPFW Director of Athletics, Tommy Bell. "We are hoping to create more events like this to promote the beautiful IPFW campus to children who will hopefully want to become students here in the future."
Following thier Fitness Day activities, students were provided lunches courtesy of Chase Bank. The lunches were designed to be part of the healthy event, and contained a Subway sandwich, apples and water.
Chase also provided transportation to and from campus for the five elementary schools, as well as tickets for the kids to the game.
Fitness Day was sponsored by Chase, WMEE-FM 97.3, WQHK-FM 105.1, Fred Toenges Shoes and the IPFW Athletic Department.
