FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - IPFW University Police evacuated portions of student housing Monday afternoon after a "potential threat," according to the schools official Facebook page .

Campus police received the threat just after 2 p.m. and evacuated Building C Housing a short time later.

Investigators and school officials aren't disclosing what the threat was about or if anyone was in danger.

IPFW sent out a text alert to students telling them about the evacuation order.

Students were allowed to return after about 15 minutes.

Below is the message posted on Facebook in its entirety:

** About today's emergency text message **

The University Police handled a call about a "potential threat" this afternoon at housing. As part of dealing with the situation, the police evacuated part of Building C.

Everything is over now, and everybody is fine. The University Police took care of the situation without any problems.

** What happened? **
I can't go into details about what happen

ed because, as they say on TV, the investigators are still looking into it.

** Well, if everything's done now, why did an emergency text go out? **
When safety issues happen on campus, the University's first focus is protecting our students. As part of that, the Clery Act (the law governing student safety on campus) describes when to notify the students and the community that something happened.

Naturally, the University Police use their best judgement on when to send notifications. Because this was a "potential" threat, the University Police took care of everything first, then sent the notification afterward.

** Why even bother sending a text after everything was over? **
Even though the situation was long over by then, we sent the message because that's what the Clery Act says to do.

** I didn't get a text or a phone call about this. Should I have gotten one? **
Yes, but you need to sign up for the emergency notification system in order to get the text.

Here's what to do:
1. Sign into http://my.ipfw.edu/ .
2. Find the Alert Phone Number box (usually on the right side of the screen).
3. Click the Edit button in the box.
4. Follow the instructions to register your permanent phone, mobile phone, and email address for emergency alerts. You can easily tell the system which kind of alerts you want (and, more importantly, which ones you don't want).
5. When you're done, click Save the update your preferences.
6. Click Logout to close my.IPFW.
