Instruments collected for Henryville

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- One week ago, southern Indiana was hit hard by severe weather and the town of Henryville was wiped out by a tornado.  This week, the town has been trying to pick up the pieces.

Henryville High School was hit particularly hard.  The high school's winter band is supposed to perform next weekend but because of the storm, they have no instruments.

In response to their struggle, the band director at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne is collecting instruments to send to Henryville students.

"They're going to be able to carry on now and maybe get back to normal a little bit, provide an outlet for their students so she (the Henryville band director) was very thrilled and I've heard that the kids are as well," said Homestead Band Director Steve Barber.

Homestead is also collecting donations for folks in Henryville until 8 p.m. Friday at the high school.
