FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - As temperatures rise above freezing, Indiana Department of Transportation warns drivers to watch for potholes.
INDOT said potholes form when water seeps into the cracks of roads and then freezes, expanding the layers of pavement. As the ice melts, traffic loosens the pavement more and forms potholes.
During the winter, INDOT uses a mixture of small stone and liquid asphalt as a temporary patch.
You can report a pothole by calling the INDOT Fort Wayne District at 866-227-3555 or e-mailing neinformation@indot.in.gov . You can also use the online “Report a Concern” tool.
