FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - In Allen County, all four school districts had board races Tuesday night.  NewsChannel 15 kept a close eye on the races in East Allen and Southwest Allen.  Reason being a lot of EACS parents wanted to see incumbents unseated.  As for SACS, there were mixed emotions as to whether parents would like to see incumbents stay or go.

In EACS, Bob Nelson Jr. has won a seat on the school board from Michael Paff.  Incumbent Richard Allgeier has been unseated by Arden Hoffman.  Vince Buchanan lost to incumbent Terry Jo Lightfoot.

For SACS, incumbent John Blum kept his seat.  Mark Gilpin also kept his seat by beating Jason Kuchmay.  Meagan Milne claimed an open seat on the SACS school board.

What this means for EACS, it will have two fresh new faces on its school board - which may make some parents happy.  SACS will keep both of its incumbents who seats were up for grabs.

Indiana State Superintendent of Public Instruction race

Some educators rejoiced Tuesday night after incumbent Tony Bennett conceded to Democrat Glenda Ritz.  Ritz will be the new Superintendent of Public Instruction in Indiana.

A lot of teachers weren't happy with the direction Bennett was heading in.  They said he was focusing on standardized testing, which is something they disagree with.  A lot of teachers rallied around Ritz because of her stance on the voucher program, giving local schools more control, charter schools, and the ISTEP testing model.  Ritz said it doesn't provide a true assessment of what levels students are performing at in the classroom.  She said that's because it's centered around pass or fail distinctions.
