FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Indiana Michigan Power has restored electricity to everyone in Allen County who lost power on Friday. High winds knocked down trees and took down power lines. I&M found several broken poles in their service area.
I & M spokesperson YaVonda Ulfig said the majority of the outages were in northeast Fort Wayne. Ulfig said that at this time, it is not known what caused the mechanical failure, though wind could have been a factor.
One business used a generator to stay open until closing time.
"We have to make the money, and also keep people satisfied, so our business can grow," said a worker at the Myanmar Store off State Blvd.
I & M officials said there are ways to be prepared for power outages.
"Basic emergency management, always have water, always have food that doesn't require electricity, consider a generator," said Sarah Bodner, I & M Director of Communication and Community Affairs. "If you do have a generator, make sure you're going to plug that in the appropriate manner."
