FORT WAYNE, iND. (Wane) As Powerball mania continues to build, people showed up early Wednesday morning to get a free ticket in hopes of winning the $500 jackpot. That jackpot increased to $550 million later in the day.
The Hoosier Lottery gave away 500 tickets at the Ricker's located at 5823 Coldwater Road. An individual ticket normally costs $2.00. Free tickets will only be given to those who are at least 18 years old. The giveaway started at 6 am.
Wednesday's multi-state Powerball drawing will take place at 11 pm. The cash value of the jackpot is an estimated $360 million. It's the second highest jackpot in lottery history, behind only the $656 million Mega Millions prize in March, 2012.
