FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne’s Yard Waste Recycling Facility has attracted a lot of traffic since before opening Saturday morning.

Long lines formed throughout the morning as people deposited debris left behind by damage suffered in Friday’s storm.

An employee told NewsChannel 15 that around 400 people had visited the facility in its first three hours of operation.

The facility hours have been extended this weekend.  It is open from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The recycling site is located at 6210 Lake Avenue, just west of Maplecrest.  It accepts yard waste, twigs and small brush. Tree root balls, lumber, rocks or soil with rocks cannot be recycled.  The employee said the site has received mostly limbs and trees after Friday’s storm.

City officials say the cost is just $1 per residential load.

The employee suggested that visitors execute patience and understanding when utilizing the facility’s services.
