H.O.P.E. takes in pets during power outage and excessive heat

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) H.O.P.E. for Animals is currently offering to help displaced pet owners who may be dealing with power outages and excessive heat after the storms on Friday.

For anyone who needs to leave their home because of the power outage but can't take their pets with them, H.O.P.E. will care for the animals until Saturday, at no charge.

Madeline Laird, Executive Director of H.O.P.E. for Animals, said  "pretty much any animal that has been put out because of the heat right now we can take care of."

The Fort Wayne facility has space for 50 to 70 pets. Volunteers will be there to supervise, walk and feed cats, dogs or even take care of reptiles if brought in a crate.

H.O.P.E. asks that you call 260-632-7729 if you need assistance or would like to volunteer to help.

H.O.P.E. is located at 1333 Maycrest Drive in Fort Wayne.

H.O.P.E.had been housing animals for Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control until the Animal Care and Control facility regained power on Monday.

H.O.P.E. stands for the the Humane Organization for the Prevention of Euthanasia. H.O.P.E. The H.O.P.E. website states: "Our mission is to eliminate unnecessary euthanasia of our companion animals through, Education, Low Cost Spay/Neuter/Wellness and Rescue."
