FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) tried to evacuate four homes after a gas line was hit in the 3200 block of Oliver Street Thursday afternoon.
According to the FWFD, when crews arrived around 1:30 p.m., a two-inch gas line was hit and high levels of gas were metered in the area.
As a result, FWFD tried to evacuate four homes, although only one person was actually at home at the time.
Fire crews were on scene for about two and a half hours while NIPSCO and AEP worked to repair the line and restore gas and power to nearby homes.
The FWFD was not aware of what or who hit the line initially.
