DECATUR, Ind. (WANE) - This year’s drought has been devastating for area farmers. As they try to figure out how they will make it through the year, one group is offering some help. Educators and Researchers at the Purdue Extension offices around the state are holding special meetings to help the farmers through the drought.
Local, Regional, and State-wide meetings are taking place to help answer questions or inform producers of assistance. There are several regional meetings taking place this month around the state. There is even a meeting scheduled at the Indiana State fair this year. Locally there are 3 meetings taking place, both of which are in Adams County.
"In our region we are holding 3 meetings and one of them being at the NEPAC farm in the morning of the 16th. In Adams County here I'm putting on 2 field days" said Brad Kohlhagen, Adams County A&R Extension Educator .
While many topics will be covered at the meetings locally, all of them will have information about the drought.
"Right now crop insurance is definitely one of the biggest hottest topics out there. There's a lot of nitrates in the corn itself right now and if guys are wanting to maybe silage chop those it is pretty important to do a nitrate test" said Kohlhagen.
