Gregg ties Pence to Indiana Mandate

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Gregg was in Fort Wayne Wednesday, introducing what he's calling the "Pence Plan for Indiana."

In it, Gregg attacks the ideas in a 1992 book called the Indiana Mandate, published by the conservative think tank Indiana Policy Review Foundation during Congressman Mike Pence's tenure as its president. Pence is the Republican gubernatorial candidate.

According to Gregg, Indiana Mandate calls for an end to minimum wage, repealing the Americans with Disabilities Act, and repealing family leave laws.

Gregg also said he has known Pence for years, and the Republican has spent his time in Congress dealing with social issues, not creating jobs, as he mentions in his campaign ads.

"He's just a leopard changing his spots," said Gregg.  "''Cause God love him, he's spent the whole 12 years in Congress on doing nothing but social issues, and now he's gotten lock jaw on it... if he still is the champion of social issues, that's fine.  There's nothing wrong with that, but he needs to own up to it."

Pence campaign officials responded to Gregg's comments Wednesday.  They said, "We think that each candidate should talk about his own ideas, and let Hoosiers decide which they like best."

The Pence campaign also said Indiana Mandate is made up of 22 essays, and Pence only wrote one.  It is about term limits.
