SYRACUSE , Ind. (WANE) Marc Byall used Report!t to send us a video of his niece, Myelin Byall,3, who he said received 30 stitches after being bit by a dog.
The Syracuse Police Chief, Tony Ciriello said Myelin was bitten by a Lhasa Apso around 3 p.m. on Monday at her grandmother's house on Lake Street in Syracuse.
Myelin was with her mother, Deybrean Byall, at her grandmother's when she dropped her sunglasses by the dog and it ran at her and attacked her face.
The grandmother said she rescued the dog named Benji from a shelter a year ago. The family said they knew Benji had been abused and is territorial.
Ciriello said the dog was on medicine for anger and hyperness.
The Benji is currently in quarantine in Syracuse. It has had all its shots and vaccinations. It will be quarantined for 10 days. Ciriello said it is up to the family whether to keep it, give it up or have it euthanized.
Deybrean Byall said they have chosen to have the dog euthanized on July 5. Ciriello said Benji may have a chance to live. If someone comes forward and would like to rescue Benji and work on his behavior, it would then be up to his owner to release him to a new owner.
