FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne firefighters battled an early morning house fire.
Just before 4 a.m. Monday, firefighters were called to the 2200 block of Getz Road.
Arriving firefighters found fire and heavy smoke coming from a house.
A man told firefighters he woke up and smelled smoke. He was able to get out of the house safely.
Officials said the fire started in the walkout basement of the home and extended to the upper level after burning through the flooring. It took crews about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.
Crews were able to contain most of the flames, but the house sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.
No one was injured, but firefighters said a pet cat remains unaccounted for.
