FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - General Electric has plans to relocate more than 100 of its Fort Wayne employees.  That will only leave 30 workers at its big campus near Broadway.  The campus consists of 1,000,000,000 square feet according to G.E.  The spokesperson for G.E., Matt Conkrite, said it's a cost savings move.  Conkrite said the 160 employees on campus are under utilizing the space available to them.

G.E. is going to move 130 of the 160 workers to a leased office space on Coliseum Boulevard.  The remaining 30 employees will work in the Motors Division.  The director of Community Development in Fort Wayne, John Urbahns, said this shows G.E.'s commitment to Fort Wayne.

"The good thing is they're still committed to that campus.  They're going to be looking at how they weatherize those buildings so that they don't deteriorate and we'll just have to wait and see what the future holds," said Urbahns.

G.E. bought the large campus near Broadway from Jenney Electric Light Company in 1911.  At that time, G.E. had 10,000 employees working in its buildings.

Conkrite told NewsChannel 15 G.E. plans to weatherize the buildings it's no longer using.  As of now, G.E. doesn't have plans of relocating what will be the remaining 30 workers and leaving its campus in Fort Wayne.

No word as to when the 130 employees will be moved to the office on Coliseum Boulevard.
