FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - As moderate drought conditions continue in Allen County, so do dangerous brush fires.

Fort Wayne firefighters put out a small brush fire behind the Cash America Pawn store in the 3400 block of North Clinton Street around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters said a decent pile of brush behind the building was possibly set on fire to burn away the cut limbs and trees. Crews were able to get the fire out quickly before it spread into a nearby tree line.

Officials said the location of the fire makes it unlikely someone might have flicked a cigarette to start the fire. But officials couldn't say if the fire was set intentionally or how it might have started. The department also wasn't ruling out the possibility of fireworks.

Allen Co. officials issued a statement on Wednesday asking residents to limit or suspend burning during the dry conditions.
