2012 Fort4Fitness: Record-breaking 9,809 participants

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The 5th Annual Fort 4 Fitness Fall Festival , which promotes healthy living in Northeast Indiana, had 9,809 participants, a record-breaking number for the race.

Runners had the chance to participate in a half marathon race (13.1 miles), a 10K race (6.2 miles), or a 4 mile race.

The course started at the Baker Street station and went south through Foster Park and historic Fort Wayne neighborhoods.

Mark Wolf, the Marketing Director for Fort 4 Fitness, said there were around 1,200 volunteers at this year's event.

The results of the 2012 Fort 4 Fitness races are below:

Men's Half Marathon

  • 1st place - Kyle Carey, 27, of Fort Wayne, won the Half Marathon. He claimed the RRCA Central Regional Championship with a time of 1:12:18.
  • 2nd place - Braden Nelson, 23, of Angola
  • 3rd place - Jared Simon, 23, of Fort Wayne

Women's Half Marathon

  • 1st place - Crystina Ridenour, 25, of Fort Wayne, won her third straight Fort4Fitness Half Marathon title, and also claimed the RRCA Central Regional Championship with a new Fort4Fitness women’s half marathon record time.
  • 2nd place - Elizabeth Schloss, 24, of Fort Wayne
  • 3rd place - Lisa Roe, 42, of Angola

Men's 10K race

  • 1st place - Nathan Hebel, 38, a Concordia High School alum, who now lives in Quebec. His time set a new Fort4Fitness record for the 10K
  • 2nd place - Chip Larowe, 49, of Auburn
  • 3rd place - Nick Girod, 23, of Decatur

Women's10K race

  • 1st place - Heidi Kimmel, 37, of Lakeville, MN
  • 2nd place - Ashley Sprunger, 26, of Fort Wayne
  • 3rd place - Amy Hipsher, 39, of Ossian

Men's 4 mile race

  • 1st place - Thomas Crum, 25, of Fort Wayne
  • 2nd place - Eric Ade, 34, Fort Wayne
  • 3rd place - Steve Connelly, 44, of Fort Wayne

Women's 4 mile race

  • 1st place - Abby Brandenberger, 31, of Fort Wayne
  • 2nd place - Alicia Schmutzler, 31, of Indianapolis
  • 3rd place - Paige Geiger, 13, of Fort Wayne

Wheelchair races

  • Paul Erway (Half Marathon, 53, of Shelbyville, KY)
  • Molly Welfle (10K, 14, of Fort Wayne)
  • Tyler Sarrazine (4 Mile, 14, of Fort Wayne)
