FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Another season at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo ended Sunday. Zoo officials said this year's attendance was around 480,000 people.
"We're very excited about that because it was so hot this summer. Spring was very good for attendance because the weather was great and animal babies always help with attendance," Diane Current, the zoo's weekend education supervisor, said.
Even though the sun didn't shine much Sunday for the last day of the regular season, Current said a lot of the animals were still out because of the warmer temperatures.
"A lot of animals love the wind and the rustling of the leaves," she said. "The animals will still be out during the Halloween events if the weather stays nice."
Zoo workers are now busy getting ready for the Wild Zoo Halloween. The merry not scary event for kids opens October 19. There are activities from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. on October 19-21, 25-28 and 31.
"It's a fun day event where the kids can wear their costumes," Current said. "There are other events too, not just trick or treating. You can get your hair done in the Beauty Shop of Horrors, mazes, duck ponds, bean bag tosses and a lot of events the whole family can come out for."
