FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A Veterans Day ceremony honoring veterans and active military was held at Memorial Park on Sunday morning in Fort Wayne.

A military color guard put a wreath on the Victory Memorial Arch in Memorial Park at 11:11 a.m. People also said prayers for active military and veterans.

Ken Rupel, the Quartermaster for VFW Post 10006 in Fort Wayne, helped organized the ceremony. Rupel is a veteran who served in Vietnam in 1971.

Rupel said three or four of the VFW posts from the Fort Wayne area were present at the ceremony.

Ron Ball, a veteran who served with the Air National Guard in Afghanistan, said many people don't realize that veterans who are disabled and homeless need the community's help.

"It means a lot to have this ceremony here to recognize the veterans and all that they've done, and continue to do, for our country," Ball said.

Ball's father is a World War II veteran.
