FWFD Merit Commission has opening

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Fort Wayne Fire Merit Commission is currently accepting resumes for an open position on the board.

The Commission is made up of five individuals, three appointed positions by the Mayor of Fort Wayne, and two elected positions by the firefighter's union. The current opening is a member who will be elected by the Union.

The responsibilities of the Merit Commission is to govern the hiring, promotion, evaluation, and discipline for personnel of the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

The following criteria must be meet to qualify for the position:

  • Must be 21-years-old
  • Must be a resident of the City of Fort Wayne for the last three consecutive years
  • Must have voted Republican in the last three Primary Elections (Indiana Code requires a member from each political party; a Democrat currently occupies the other election position)
  • Must have good moral character
  • Must NOT be receiving any remuneration as salary from the City of Fort Wayne

The deadline for submissions is Friday, February 15, 2013.
