HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A fisherman was involved in a near fatal accident near Roush Lake Thursday.
Officials were called to a small pond in Huntington County around 11:05 a.m. and found Michael Gosnell in the water clinging to the ice he had broken through while fishing.
Indiana Conservation Officer Mark Johnston said he coordinated with Markle firefighter Michael Grant to rescue Gosnell.
Officials said Grant put on an insulated dry suit and crossed the frozen pond. Grant pulled Gosnell out of the water with help from rescue personnel.
Police said Gosnell was treated at the scene by EMS and then transported to Parkview Huntington Hospital. He is being treated for cold related injuries, along with cuts and bruises.
Officials said the person who was fishing with Gosnell, James Koon, witnessed the accident and was able to call 911.
Police said Koon tossed Gosnell equipment to help him stay above water until emergency personnel were able to rescue him.
Indiana Conservation Officers said Gosnell was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.
