FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Firefighters were called to a large house fire at 7008 Old Trail Road Sunday morning.

Firefighters said a passerby walked into the Southwest Fire District Station 1 at 7001 Old Trail Road at 10:53 a.m. to report a house that was on fire.

Southwest Fire District arrived at the scene three minutes later. Firefighters did an aggressive interior attack on the fire. The Fort Wayne Fire Department assisted Southwest Fire District.

According to officials, the fire started in the kitchen.

No one was home at the time of the fire and firefighters said the fire was under control at 11:08 a.m.

NewsChannel 15 talked to the homeowners, Adam and Abby Hyder. The couple said they had been remodeling the home for about eight months.

The Hyders said they had originally planned to move into the home this weekend but decided to wait until next weekend because they still needed to finish staining the floors.

To their knowledge, nothing was turned on inside the house at the time of the fire.

Firefighters said no one was injured.

The FWFD said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Police shut down Old Trail Road to all traffic for around 45 minutes while crews cleaned up the scene.
