FWFD: More than 60 firefighters battled blaze at Hall Aluminum

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Fort Wayne Fire Department had more than 60 firefighters on the scene of a fire that broke out early Saturday morning at an industrial site.

Crews were called to Hall Aluminum Products at 5402 Moeller Road around 4:45 a.m. Saturday.

Firefighters said crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure.

Departments from several surrounding communities were asked to assist and provide water tanker trucks.  Responding crews included New Haven Adams Township, Poe, Hoagland, N.E. Fire, Monroeville, and St. Joseph Township. Additionally, FWPD, TRAA, City Utilities, and AEP assisted with the fire.

According to Fire Chief Amy Biggs, one of the walls of the building partially collapsed. Biggs said large amounts of water were poured on the collapsed portion to contain the fire.

The fire was determined under control at 6:55 a.m. FWPD spokesperson Stacey Fleming said crews are expected to stay on the scene all day and possibly into Saturday night to monitor the situation.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries, according to Fleming.  The firefighter was released from the hospital around 8:00 a.m.

There were no other injuries.

The building is a multiple occupancy structure. At this time, the FWFD has not confirmed if Hall Aluminum Products or another occupant's area was affected by the fire.
