NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) - Firefighters were called to a large fire at Wayne Motel on 70001 SR 930 E. in New Haven at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
The first crew at the scene found heavy black smoke and flames coming from the buildings. New Haven Adams Township Fire Department called in four other departments to help because the fire was so big. Crews from Fort Wayne, St. Joe, Woodburn and Hoagland were all on the scene. The Fire Arson Specialized Team of Allen County also responded.
The initial investigation found the fire started in room 11. But, the fire got into the attic and spread quickly. It took around two hours to get the fire under control.
Fire officials said the entire structure wasn't damaged, but the parts that were had heavy fire damage. The damage is estimated to cost around $225,000.
Everybody made it out safely and there were no injuries. But, nearly 55 people staying in the motel are being helped by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire in still under investigation.
