FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Fort Wayne Fire Department is investigating a house fire that left a north side home badly damaged Sunday morning.

Around 1:30 a.m., fire crews were called to the 7000 block of Balsam Lane. Upon their arrival, they found heavy fire at the rear of the house. Firefighters had everything under control in about 15 minutes.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

A fire department report stated the fire started in the kitchen. An exact cause is still being determined.

The home sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.

The fire remains under investigation.
