FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fans are excited about the chances of the Fort Wayne Komets winning another championship. More than 10 thousand fans were at the Coliseum Saturday night in anticipation of the team winning the Presidents' Cup.
The crowd was the first sellout for the Komets since March 10. However, the team lost to Wichita, 4-3 Saturday night.
Fans were at the game more than an hour before the puck dropped. Many fans were even purchasing Komets brooms in anticipation of the team sweeping the series, four games to none.
Despite losing Saturday night, the fans feel the Komets deserve to win their ninth championship.
"They earned it," Klaus Robishaw, who has seen the team's last three championships, said. "They deserve it, they got a great net minder. The team is fantastic."
Fans said they enjoy the Komets because of the atmosphere, and the thought of raising another championship trophy adds to the excitement.
"It's a wonderful atmosphere," Jill Winter said. "I hope they win, it would be great. The fans are awesome. We have a good time."
"It would be their fourth [championship] in five years," Briauna Reuille said. "It'll be fun, everybody is going to be loud and the guys deserve it."
The Komets will have one more chance to win the championship in front of the home crowd. Game five of the series is Monday night at the Coliseum. The game begins at 7:30.
