It was the last salute for Mark Haudenschild II.

Family, friends and public safety officials from across the country laid Haudenschild to rest Saturday afternoon. At the burial, his wife Janet was presented with a U.S. and Indiana flag. She was also given her husband's helmet.

"We just wanted to show support to the firefighters and especially the family that lost the firefighter," said Brad Myers who came with his wife to show his support during the procession.

The Myers have a daughter who's a firefighter and a son who's a state trooper. They said this funeral hits close to home.

"Any honor we can give them is not enough," Myers said. "They lay their life on the line every day just to keep us protected."

The Myers weren't alone in showing their respects. There were more than 500 first responders at the burial and around 100 emergency vehicles in the procession. Firefighters came from as far as South Carolina, Florida, Ohio and Chicago to say goodbye to their brother in service.

"This is an awesome showing there are more than a hundred fire trucks here," said Russ Bauer, the senior ride captain for Indiana Patriot Guard Riders, a group that helps with services of fallen military, police, and firemen. "It's nice that these guys get together to take care of one of their own."

The burial ended with a final call out for "Washington Fire 686 Assistant Chief Engineer Mark Allan Haudenschild II," and there was also a ringing of the bell which is a firefighter tradition symbolizing the ending of a job.
