FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A gathering of generous community members who have come together online will meet in person Sunday morning to help others in need across the area.

A couple of Fort Wayne women organized a Facebook group earlier in the year called “Helping Neighbors.”   The site has attracted more than 2,000 members who share various needs throughout the year on the page.

If requests for help or items can be met, members of the page volunteer or donate needed items to others.  Suggestions of where to turn for assistance are also left from time to time.

Members post pictures throughout the year of personal items offered for free to anyone interested.

The page received several requests for assistance during the holiday season.  Members responded in an overwhelming fashion according to organizer Melissa Greenwood.

Greenwood said a large collection of donations came in including new and used toys for various ages of children.  She and a few other volunteers decided to spend time Sunday morning sorting the donations for distribution to recipients.
