FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) Former Indiana Congressman Mark Souder was back home Wednesday after undergoing emergency surgery in Iowa for gall bladder troubles.

Souder told The Journal Gazette that he and his wife arrived back in Fort Wayne on Wednesday night after he spent 11 nights at the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City.

Souder went to the emergency room with intense abdominal pain on March 23 while traveling back from a visit to family members in Colorado.

Souder said he had gallstones that caused pancreas and liver problems.

The Republican represented northeastern Indiana in Congress from 1994 until 2010. He resigned after admitting to an extramarital affair with a female staffer.
