FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Parkview hosted an event this weekend to share tips on how to keep infants safe while they sleep. It was at the Parkview YMCA.
There was information there about how to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Anyone who dropped off pillows, blankets and crib bumpers got a free sleep sack.
"We're doing this event to help prevent SIDS. Blankets, pillows, crib bumpers, anything like that can increase the risk of SIDS. So we're suggesting not to have any of that in the cribs for babies when they sleep," Jen Faurote, the event organizer, said.
Organizers also want people to know it's important to lay babies on their back on a firm surface when they sleep.
