NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE)  - East Allen County Schools hosted its School Choice Fair on Sunday at New Haven High School to offer parents and students options regarding schools in the EACS district.

Three charter schools, two Imagine schools and the Timothy Johnson School, in the Fort Wayne area will not be renewed for the 2013 to 2014 school year. According to Tamyra Kelly, the Public Relations Liaison at EACS, about 1,300 kids will be affected by the non-renewals.

"We are just opening our doors to those kids. Hopefully, they'll join us in our East Allen County Schools family," Kelly said.

According to Kelly, around 1,000 people attended the event Sunday.

"It's important because you can't always get everything off of the website or have time to stop into the school, so today is one day that we'll have every year that you can come in and get all of the information you need," Kelly said.

Students performed at the fair to give both prospective students and their parents a taste of what extracurricular activities are like at EACS. Spanish and Burmese translators were also on hand at the event.

Kelly said if parents are still considering having their kids attend one of the EACS schools, they can call ( 260) 446-0100 or visit EACS website .
