EACS and superintendent come to severance agreement

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) - $196,125.87. That's the amount of money it took for East Allen County Schools to part ways with Dr. Karyle Green.

Board members met Wednesday afternoon to sign Green's resignation and severance agreement. Dr. Green is leaving Friday but will continue to get paid through the remainder of her contract, which is June of 2014.

"You pick your poison," said Neil Reynolds, the board president of EACS. "Either we move forward with new leadership now, and it's going to cost us a little bit of money, or we hang on, and let's be honest, Karyle Green would have been a lame duck superintendent."

Reynolds said Dr. Green was hired to redesign the district, and since that project is completed, he feels maybe she thinks her job is finished. However, he said he honestly doesn't know the reason for Dr. Green's resignation.

The board says it is time for them to start fresh. On Wednesday, they also discussed the process of finding Green's replacement. They will be announcing that, as well as the interim superintendent, at Tuesday's meeting. They hope to have a replacement by July 1.

"If we stay with Karyle through 2014, then we can't move forward with a new leader, new vision, and that sort of thing," Reynolds said.

NewsChannel 15 did reach out to Dr. Green, but she refused to talk about her resignation.
