Driver hits cow, both walk away

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A driver in southwestern Allen County had a close call Monday morning.

In the rural parts of Indiana, most drivers know to be alert for deer - especially this time of year. But a driver on Indianapolis Road couldn't miss one of the larger animals that drivers are also aware of.

A cow.

Just before 4 Monday morning, a driver heading south on Indianapolis Road near Winters Road struck an Angus cow.

The cow just wasn't "mooving" fast enough.

Fortunately, the driver was checked out by paramedics and did not require further medical attention.

The cow, after laying on its side following the accident, was later assisted back up on all four legs by it's owner, a nearby farmer.

Despite some scrapes and probably some bruises, the cow was able to walk. The farmer was able to get the cow back to its proper area.

Police were not sure how the cow got loose.

Southwest fire officials said about six years ago there was a similar accident in the area involving a vehicle and a cow.

Allen County police said the farmer and driver did not receive any citations.

Indianapolis Road was closed for about 90 minutes during the incident.
