FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Dozens of people showed up at Johnny Appleseed Park in Fort Wayne to take part in a bone-chilling kickoff to 2013 Tuesday.
They took a dip in the Saint Joseph River as part of the yearly Polar Bear Plunge.
Dorothy Bax said she has been part of the event for 41 years, and said the key is having just the right weather.
"If there's a lot of wind, that really gets you.," said Bax. "The water's always cold, but when the wind goes, it really makes you cold."
The Polar Bear Plunge always takes place at 2:00 p.m. on the first day of the year.
