Donations help IN family install ramp

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) - Amramp received a $700 donation from Village Chiropractic in Fort Wayne, Indiana and a $500 grant from Unilever Good-Humor Breyers in Huntington, Indiana recently to help fund a  modular wheelchair ramp for Lynn Barkema in Huntington.

“The donations we received assisted in purchasing ramp material for our Social Mission closet which allowed us to provide this much needed ramp for Lynn,” stated Ronda Smelser, Regional Sales Coordinator for Amramp. “Without these generous donations from Village Chiropractic and Unilever Good-Humor Breyers it would not have been possible for this family to have their ramp installed and be able to maneuver safely during the inclement weather we are experiencing. Thank you Village Chiropractic and Unilever Good-Humor Breyers for your donation!” Smelser concluded.

The ramp was installed by Helping Hands, a volunteer install group through the First Church of the Nazarene in Huntington.

“Regarding the program with Amramp, I cannot say enough good things about it. Recently, I fell and broke my leg, and would be unable to leave my house while it heals without my ramp,” stated Lynn Barkema, recipient of the ramp. “Through the joint efforts of Amramp, and my church, I am able to have the use of a temporary ramp until I am back on my feet. I would be unable to work without it. It is particularly wonderful in that ice and snow go right through the grid, and it does not become slippery in bad weather! My thanks to all who aided in this project,” Barkema concluded.
