FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Both members of the Democratic Indiana gubernatorial ticket were in Fort Wayne Thursday afternoon.
Gubernatorial candidate John Gregg introduced his running mate, Vi Simpson, to supporters at the I.B.E.W. Local 305 union hall.
Simpson explained why she's giving up the state Senate seat she's held since 1984 to run for lieutenant governor.
"When this door of opportunity opened to me, it just felt right in my heart," said Simpson. "You know how you feel sometimes, in your heart? In your gut?"
Simpson, who has represented the Bloomington area, went on to explain that staying in the state Senate would have been a more comfortable move, but that it was time she put her experience to work for the entire state.
Gregg's selection of Simpson could shore up his support and fundraising among liberal Democrats. She's an abortion rights supporter, while Gregg is pro-life and opposes same sex marriage.
