Crews change I-69 exit sign numbers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - INDOT crews have started changing exit sign numbers along I-69 though Fort Wayne.

Early in the morning on Tuesday, a slow changeover began taking place on I-69 in Fort Wayne. Road crews started changing exit sign numbers in the southbound lanes of the interstate, at the first exit to Fort Wayne, Dupont Road. That exit, formerly exit 116, is now exit 316.

Crews have also changed numbers at I-469 (now exit 315) and Coldwater Road (now exit 312).

Due to the I-69 extension in southern Indiana , all I-69 exits north of Indianapolis will have 200 miles added.

Last Wednesday, crews began renumbering exits starting at the Indiana-Michigan state line and heading south. INDOT's Fort Wayne office will work north and south between the state line and Grant County. Crews will work southbound first before heading back north to finish work.

Exit signs will display the new numbers at the top and the old numbers at the bottom for the next five years.

INDOT says brief traffic disruptions could happen during nighttime hours so crews can work on signs that overhang the interstate.

All signage should be changed by the end of the year.
