NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) - Community members in the East Allen County School district have begun sharing their thoughts on who they'd like to see as their next superintendent. On Monday night, the school board and Superintendent Dr. Karyle Green announced Green's last day would be Friday, March 1.
Green worked in the district for a little more than three and a half years.
The school board plans to discuss its plan to find Green's replacement next month. Taxpayers in the district
"I just think they need to make some fiscal, responsible, decisions, financially speaking," said Molly Turnwald, who thought Green's departure would be good for the district. "I know consolidating may not be the most popular thing for a lot of the parents, but I think you need to do what is fiscally responsible."
In May of 2012, consolidation was part of an $88.7 million referendum. However, voters turned down that plan at the polls.
"I think we put too much emphasize on the number of buildings, and not education overall," Mike Clendenen, who was surprised to hear about Green's departure, said. "The school board's looking very closely at bringing the budget in line, and putting education as the priority, and not the buildings."
Not everyone thought Green should go.
"I think she should stay here," Lillie Rorick, a supporter of Green, said. "She's done a good job. The students weren't getting as much done as they are now. My granddaughter is doing a lot better this year."
