FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Bishop John M. D’Arcy announced Thursday that the suspension of Communion from the cup will be lifted, effective January 10, 2010.

“I have consulted with the other bishops of Indiana and also our regional vicars, as well as our College of Consultors,” said Bishop D’Arcy. “There was a general, though not unanimous, consensus that it is time to consider the lifting of suspension of Communion from the cup. We have also consulted particular health officials,” he said. “Taking everything into account, the suspension is lifted effective on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord (Jan. 10, 2010).

“People have every right to refrain receiving the Precious Blood from the cup if they wish,” he continued.

Bishop D’Arcy concluded his remarks by thanking his priests and the people for their collaboration in the matter.
