City department aims to prevent pollution

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne City Utilities is encouraging people to help prevent pollution. The department opened up Camp Scott Wetlands Saturday.
The event was a way to show people how wetlands can help prevent pollution. Organizers said people can also help by not throwing trash on the ground and by picking up after their pets.
"All of those things on the ground can end up in our rivers and streams when it rains. So it's so important that people help us keep that storm water runoff clean," Mary Jane Slaton, the City Utilities program manager, said.
There will be another event the evening of October 29. It will be a Twilight Tour, with family-friendly Halloween events.
