FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne City Council members were ready to vote Tuesday night on when to hold another public hearing on the condemnation of Aqua Indiana. But the city and Aqua asked them to put the vote on hold.
Attorneys representing both sides asked the council for more time. They said that's because they're engaging in constructive discussions about the condemnation of Aqua Indiana. The city could possibly buy out Aqua and supply its customers in southwest Allen County with water. This all stems from issues with water pressure that Aqua Indiana had last summer. Tuesday night City Council agreed to hold off as the city and Aqua work to resolve things.
"Overall that's really from my perspective would be the best thing for the community as a whole because just in general going through the legalities could turn people sour," City Council member Tom Didier explained.
"The settlement discussions are going very well. We've had nice progress. They've been very constructive. We're optimistic that they're going to continue to go that way and, hopefully we'll reach a settlement," Attorney for Fort Wayne City Utilities Tim Pape said.
If and when a settlement is reached, both the City and Aqua will present it to the council and the public.
