Chick-Fil-A owner's stance on gay marriage causes controversy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Many people across America are either supporting Chick-Fil-A or boycotting the restaurant after owner and CEO of the chicken chain, Dan Cathy, takes a stand against gay marriage.

After Cathy's announcement, it has caused some politicians to show their stance on the matter. Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said he will try to stop the opening of a Chick-Fil-A store in town.

Locally, many are taking their stance on the issue.

"I think it's rather admirable for Chick-Fil-A to take a stand on this issue. It's an issue that defines our age," said Christopher Mann, spokesman for Crossroad Bible College.

"When we hear about a business that anti-gay, we think about boycotting, which is what a lot of people in the LGBT community do," said Nikki Fultz, Fort Wayne Pride Director.

Both sides have planned a nationwide campaign.

Those who support Chick-Fil-A will honor the chain on August 1st, known as Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day. This is where people will go to their local restaurant, order, and thank the management for their stand against gay marriage.

The LGBT community has planned "National Kiss Same-Sex Day" on August 3rd. This is where people opposed to the restaurant's stance on gay marriage walk in to their local restaurant and display public affection with the same sex.

Though there are different beliefs on gay marriage, both Mann and Fultz agree that each side has the right to voice their opinion and support their beliefs.
