FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Community Action of Northeast Indiana (CANI) announced on Tuesday its sponsorship of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and its policy of providing free and reduced breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to children in the Head Start preschool program.
CANI's Head Start preschool program is free for low-income preschool children, ages 3 to 5. The program helps families in Allen, Noble, and Whitley counties.
Children who are members of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) assistance units or whose families receive food stamps are automatically eligible to receive these free meal benefits.
The following areas will provide free and reduced breakfasts, lunches, and snacks:
Allen County:
• Hanna-Creighton - 2107 S. Hanna St.
• Grace St. John’s – 4120 S Webster St.
• Salvation Army - 2901 N. Clinton St.
• Temple Achduth Vesholom - 5200 Old Mill Road
• St. Henry’s - 3029 E. Paulding Road
Noble County:
• First Presbyterian Church - 201 S. State Street, Kendallville
• United Methodist Church - 466 Townline Road, Ligonier
Whitley County:
• Columbia City Head Start – 1340 Governor’s Road, Columbia City
The goal of this program is to improve the diets of young children and increase their ability to eat healthy, nutritious foods.
Meals are available to all enrolled participants at all CANI Head Start locations. For more information, families can call the CANI Head Start Administrative Office at (260) 420-2833.
