FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - With Christmas just 12 weeks away, businesses are already gearing up for the holiday shopping season by adding workers. Meijer and Kohl's are among the list.
"The change in the weather people are really starting to be ready and get ready for the holidays," Meijer Store Director Scott Hoffman said.
That's because they're seeing more people shopping for items on their holiday list. Meijer is looking to hire about 1,800 people in Indiana in its stores and about 150 people in Fort Wayne. Kohl's in Fort Wayne is also looking to hire about 40 temporary employees.
The President and CEO of the Workforce Investment Board, Kathleen Randolph, has seen more seasonal job opportunities popping up.
"We definitely see more job openings and opportunities now than we have in the last couple of years and we think this is a positive indicator of an improving economy," Randolph said.
Although they're just temporary jobs, the store director of the Lima Road Meijer said often times they lead to something more.
"Many of our part time seasonal jobs turn into long-term full-time jobs for people," Hoffman said.
If you're one of the many hoping to get a seasonal job, Randolph said you need to take action now.
"They can walk into a Work One pick up a schedule for our workshops we have workshops on resume development and interviewing skills," Randolph said.
