FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A Fort Wayne boy was home alone when a dryer caught fire on South Park Drive Sunday, but he was able to get out safely along with several dogs before crews arrived to help.
According to the Fort Wayne Fire Department, just before 2 p.m., the boy was home alone when he heard a squeal coming from the dryer in the kitchen area.
When he found the fire in the dryer, he gathered several dogs in the home and got out of the house without any injuries.
When crews arrived, smoke and fire filled the kitchen of the home at 3710 South Park Drive but was quickly extinguished.
The fire left a moderate level of fire, water and smoke damage.
The fire department did not disclose the boy's exact age.
