FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Downtown Fort Wayne is busy with events this weekend. One major event in Fort Wayne this weekend is the Indiana Democratic Convention.  The convention is normally held in Indianapolis, but the Democrats are confident that Fort Wayne is a great place to nominate their next lieutenant governor, attorney general, and state superintendent.

“We have received nothing but great praise since Wednesday when a lot of the folks from Indy started coming up about the events we are hosting, the opportunities that the Visit Fort Wayne has for us here, just Fort Wayne has really been the right spot,” said Allen County Democratic Chair John Court

While in the Summit City, the Convention has planned a variety of events for the delegates.

"There's meetings with the other convention delegates to get the chance to talk to them about issues, about jobs," said U.S. Congressional candidate, Joe Donnelly.

They will be working hard, but there is time for fun too.

"A lot of them are going to ball games and to the restaurants in town and, so as a Congressman, I also think of economic benefit, and I'm thinking everybody who comes means extra dollars in the pockets of the people of Fort Wayne,” Donnelly said.

The extra money pouring into Fort Wayne is expected to be around a half a million dollars. Some of that money will flow into Ribfest at Headwater’s Park where it is all about the food, fun, and family.

Both the convention and Ribfest will last through Sunday.
